How to cook croutons You can fry croutons in oil (add a little butter as well for flavour if you like) in a frying pan or brush/toss them with oil and then bake or grill them - whichever suits you best. Use any oil you like but bear in mind that it will add some of its own flavour to the finished croutons. Rub the whole garlic clove over both sides of the sourdough. Tear it into rough chunks and toss with the oil, a good pinch of salt and the seeds.

The ingredients needed to make Homemade croutons:
  1. Take 1 loaf french bread
  2. Take 1 stick butter or margarine
  3. Make ready 1 tbsp dried basil
  4. Prepare 1 tbsp Italian seasoning mix (any brand)
  5. Get 1 tsp garlic powder
  6. Get 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  7. Get 3 tbsp olive oil, extra virgin

Add in salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and Parmesan, and toss to. Place bread in a large bowl. Combine the remaining ingredients; drizzle over bread and toss to coat. Slice bread into one inch cubes.

Steps to make Homemade croutons:
  1. Cut bread into cubes (size is personal preference. Mine were about an inch or less)
  2. Put all the other ingredients in a microwave safe container and microwave 1 minute. Let sit for a minute or two for dried seasonings to bloom.
  3. Preheat oven at 350°. Line baking sheet with foil. Put cubed bread in large mixing bowl and while stirring slowly pour butter/olive oil mix over it to coat but not drench bread cubes.
  4. Put single layer bread cubes on baking sheet and bake 15 minutes. Turn oven off and wait 5-10 minutes then remove to cool.
  5. When cooled place in airtight container. I used gallon sized zip lock bag.

Combine the remaining ingredients; drizzle over bread and toss to coat. Slice bread into one inch cubes. Add to a medium sized bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss until coated. Melt the butter on medium high heat in a large sauté pan.
